As a Stockton Unified Trustee, I have worked to ensure transparency, collaboration, and meaningful engagement with students, families, and stakeholders. From hosting community events to advocating for equity and school safety, my goal has always been to listen, learn, and lead with the voices of our community in mind.
Here’s a look at the community engagement efforts I have led and participated in to strengthen Stockton Unified:
Regular Community Outreach & Events
One of the most important aspects of being a trustee is staying accessible to families, students, and educators. To make sure everyone has a voice in our district, I have prioritized:
✔️ Monthly Coffee Chats – These informal gatherings provide an open space for parents, students, and community members to discuss concerns, share ideas, and ask questions about Stockton Unified.
✔️ Community Events – Bringing together families and stakeholders to stay informed about district initiatives and ensure that everyone has a seat at the table.
By creating direct channels of communication, I have been able to hear first-hand what matters most to our families and work toward real solutions.
Advocacy & Public Engagement
State of the School District Address
One of the biggest moments of the year was delivering my State of the School District speech, with a central theme of inspiring growth and success for all students. In attendance were Congressman Josh Harder’s office, California Senator Susan Eggman’s office, and Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln, highlighting the importance of collaboration between education leaders and local government.
Local Control Accountability Plan Community Engagement
I joined several LCAP meetings, including the LCAP Goals 2 & 3 Data Social, where families engaged in discussions about mental health, student leadership, and Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs. Making sure our LCAP aligns with the needs of our students and families is critical to student success.
Governance & Trustee Development
As part of my role on the board, I participate in professional development to strengthen my leadership skills and become an effective member of the Board of Education. Most recently, I participated in Good Beginnings, a governance training led by CSBA’s Bob Caine which helped refine our understanding of Board roles, responsibilities, and district goals, ensuring that we serve our community effectively.
Supporting Students & Families
A major focus of my work has been ensuring that families have the resources they need to support student success. This includes:
✔️ College & Career Readiness – Encouraging families to attend workshops on college access, career pathways, and scholarship opportunities to help students prepare for their futures.
✔️ STEAM & Specialty School Fair – Attending and engaging with families at the district’s STEAM Fair and Specialty School Showcase, where students displayed their incredible talents and unique learning opportunities were celebrated.
Equity, Safe Schools & Family Support
Safe Haven Commitment
I proudly supported Resolution 24-41, reaffirming Stockton Unified as a Safe Haven for All Students and Families. Our commitment ensures that Stockton Police Department and SUSD Police Department do not engage in immigration enforcement, allowing students to focus on learning without fear.
Strengthening School Safety
Ensuring safe learning environments is a top priority, and I have worked to highlight SUSD’s expanded safety measures, including:
✔️ Visitor Management Systems – Strengthening campus security and access control.
✔️ Emergency Communication Tools – Implementing systems to improve school response times.
✔️ Enhanced Safety Training & Resources – Supporting students, staff, and families in understanding new safety protocols.
By continuously advocating for student safety and equity, I am committed to ensuring that all Stockton Unified students feel safe, supported, and empowered in their learning environments.
Celebrating Community & Culture
Stockton is home to a rich and diverse community, and I have been honored to participate in events that celebrate our shared history and values, including:
✔️ MLK March – Walking alongside families, students, and local leaders to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of justice, equality, and service.
✔️ Cinco de Mayo parade and celebration – Celebrating Latinx families throughout our community and their contributions to a vibrant Stockton.
These moments remind us of the power of education, culture, and community in shaping our students’ futures.
Continuing the Work
From regular engagement opportunities to advocating for district-wide improvements, my commitment to our students, families, and educators remains stronger than ever. Community involvement is essential to creating lasting change, and I will continue to work to ensure every voice is heard and valued in Stockton Unified.
